Born in Akron, Ohio, Ethel was the eldest daughter of Forrest and Lucille Goodman, growing up alongside her one brother and two sisters. She spent her childhood on a beautiful 100-acre farm in Greensburg, Ohio, where the family raised wheat, corn, cattle, and milk cows. Ethel didn’t just grow up on the farm—she thrived there. She loved the hard work, the early mornings, and the deep sense of purpose that came from farming life. Those days shaped her strong work ethic and grounded spirit.

Athletic and full of energy, Ethel ran track and jumped into any sport she could squeeze in. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1955 and soon after began her professional journey at First National Bank of Akron. Starting as a teller and administrative assistant, she found her stride in credit collections—a field where her sharp mind and steady determination would shine for years to come.

In 1960, Ethel met the love of her life, Al, at church. What began there blossomed quickly into a beautiful partnership. Al was a country music star, and together they shared 43 loving years filled with faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership, with a bond that touched everyone who knew them.

Later, Ethel moved to Texas, calling it home for 35 years. She continued her work in credit collections and even had the unique experience of working for celebrated author Sandra Brown before retiring in 2007. Retirement led her to Tennessee, where she settled and embraced a new chapter of life.

Creativity has always been close to Ethel’s heart. She loves to crochet, crafting pieces that she often gifts or sells, each stitch a reflection of her care and skill. She also finds joy in sketching—especially barns—and designing dresses, blending her rural roots with a keen eye for beauty and detail. Her artistic spirit brings warmth and charm wherever it goes.

A devoted member of Cornerstone Apostolic Church, Ethel’s faith has been a cornerstone throughout her life. Though she can no longer attend services in person, her faith remains a guiding light, steady and strong. While she never had children of her own, she is surrounded by a close-knit circle of friends and church family who cherish her deeply.

Ethel’s sparkling, sassy personality is a beacon of light for everyone around her. Her warmth, strength, and spirited charm brighten the days of both staff and residents alike. We feel truly blessed to have Ethel as a treasured part of The Harbor family at Legacy Village of Cleveland.
